This is a perfect trek if you do not have the time to trek to Everest Base Camp but want to appreciate some of the most beautiful elements of the Khumbu, experiencing the unique culture, fauna and flora of the Himalayas.
A spectacular mountain flight from Kathmandu to Lukla starts your adventure, before you make your way up to Namche Bazaar, a trading outpost where the Tibetan and Nepalese people sell their wares.
You'll visit Tengboche, a fascinating Buddhist Monastery where you can watch the Monks perform their daily rituals, and also the highest permanent settlement of the Sherpa – Pangboche at 3990m.
Trek Itinerary
- Day 1
- Arrive Kathmandu
Pick-up from airport, transfer to hotel, trek briefing.
Welcome dinner at Kathmandu’s finest Nepali restaurant.
- Day 2
- Kathmandu - Half Day City Tour/Sightseeing
Visit the ancient temples and monuments of old Kathmandu. Lunch and trek briefing with free time for sightseeing.
- Day 3
- Fly to Lukla (2830m) and trek (3-4 hours) to Phakding (2650m)
Early morning flight in a twin otter to Lukla.
Half day trek on the ‘Everest Highway’ following the Dudh Kosi river to Phakding.
- Day 4
- Trek (5-6 hours) to Namche Bazaar (3440m)
Trek mostly uphill to the thriving Bazaar and sherpa capital of Namche. First views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Thamserku, Kusum Kangru, Kwangde and Taweche.
- Day 5
- Rest and acclimatisation day at Namche Bazaar (3440m)
Explore the interesting trading capital of Namche Bazaar. Kick back, write postcards or have a short walk to a fantastic view point of Mount Everest.
- Day 6
- Trek (5-6 Hours) to Tengboche (3870m)
We descend down to cross the Dudh Kosi river to Phunki Tenga for lunch. After lunch we arrive at the famous Tengboche Monastery to watch the monks perform their daily rituals.
- Day 7
- Trek (2-3 hours)to Pangboche (3990m) and return to Tengboche (3870m)
You will have the opportunity to experience village life at the highest permanent settlement of the Sherpa people - Pangboche.
- Day 8
- Trek to Khumjung (3760m)
Visit the Khumjung Monastery to view the ‘Yeti scalp’ and visit the high school built by Sir Edmund Hillary of New Zealand.
- Day 9
- Trek (4-5 hours) to Monjo (2840m)
Relax and enjoy the beautiful tranquil valley.
- Day 10
- Trek (3-4 hours) to Phakding then Lukla
We descend down the valley following the Dudh Kosi for lunch at Phakding. Onto Lukla and a dinner party to celebrate our last night on the Trek and completion of a successful journey.
- Day 11
- Fly Lukla to Kathmandu
Hotel in Kathmandu to chill out, relax and do some sightseeing.
- Day 12
- Kathmandu Farewell Dinner/Party
Free time to sightsee, shop and relax.
Farewell dinner party and celebration with the trekking team.
- Day 13
- Departure
Onward travel or return home to catch-up with friends and family.
