Southern Alps, New Zealand
The Southern Alps of New Zealand is a sublime experience - skiing on a remote alpine island in the Pacific Ocean, an uncrowded naturally beautiful environment that only rugged New Zealand can offer.
The Craigieburn Range and Mount Cook/Tasman Glacier regions of the South Island offer some of the largest vertical descents of backcountry powder skiing in New Zealand. Huge bowls, chutes and colouirs in a remote untouched setting with classic kiwi hospitality.
The southerly weather pattern drives its way up New Zealand from Antarctica delivering cold, dry snow onto the Southern Alps and makes for a short, yet punchy season best sessioned in mid - July, August, September & October. The Craigieburn Range offers some of the best steep skiing in the country with huge powder bowls, 40-50 degree colouirs accessible from the many ‘club’ fields across the range. We assess weather conditions and choose the best aspects on ski fields to maximise your time allowing you to score the best turns available for your bucks. We organise backcountry ski & snowboard tours for 3, 5 & 7 days guiding to introduce you to the best areas and to get you off the beaten track.
The iconic Mount Cook and Tasman Glacier area is accessed by plane or helicopter where we stay in high mountain huts in the beautiful, remote alpine slopes with views across the whole South Island down to the West Coast & Tasman Sea – quite an unforgettable experience. Again we can offer backcountry ski & snowboard tours here for 3,5,7 & 10 days organising all logistics ensuring the sweetest turns in an alpine amphitheatre like no other.
Iran is an enchanted ski spot where there is little competition for the vast amounts of powder it reaps in its 3000-4000m slopes. Locals tend to flirt in restaurants, listening to house music rather than carve up the delicious powder that falls on their resorts. The reason – religious rules are somewhat relaxed and it’s a haven to forget these for a while and flirt with your potential life partner, chillax hang out and be cool.
